As part of efforts to ensure peaceful conduct of governorship election on the November 16 Governorship election especially in the East Senatorial District of Kogi state, the  Board of Trustees of Igala Cultural Development Association (ICDA)  has set up a development project committee to ensure rancour-free election.

This decision came on  the heels of incessant crisis during such period in the flank, where lives and properties have always  been  lost in the process, the apex Igala cultural body that comprises 9 local governments in the state  said such ugly incident will not repeat itself in the November election.

The Igala development project committee which was set up at the weekend in Idah, the ancient capital of Igala kingdom by the ICDA Board of Trustees has a veteran  Igala Activist, Dr Yakubu Ugwulawo as the chairman, Dr Idris Omede, Hon. David Ogwu, as well as Comrade Goodman Akwu, Hon.Joe Erico, pharmacist Zakari Jiya and hosts of others as members.

The ICDA Board of Trustees noted that the association will put every machinery in motion to ensure that votes count in the November 16 gubernatorial election, dousing fears being nursed in certain quarters that expression of voters at the polls might not decide the winner of the said election.

According to elder statesman   Yakubu Ugwulawo, the Chairman of the committee, “the imbalances in the spreading of the dividend of democracy”, and the question of Igala interest in the November election, among others were the driven force behind the emergence of the group.

Ugwulawo who was the Director-General of then Alhaji Yahaya Bello campaign organisation in 2015, but fell apart with the governor over irreconcilable differences said the region of the state have been shortchanged from the scheme of things, charging the members of the committee to be up and doings until the imbalanced are corrected via the coming election.

In the same vein, Comrade Goodman Akwu, an activist turned politician and a convener of Coalition for good governance and Justice, a structure the Igala development project is expected to make impact said the level of poverty, hardships and violence in the land, especially in the east district is alarming, adding it’s only good governance that can address it to it’s basic.

He said the efforts are aimed at   “securing free and fair, conclusive, peaceful and rancour -free election” in the east region of the state, that has been devilled “with thuggery, violence and killing” in such outing.

Dr Akwu, therefore, enjoined the region to come out enmasse and vote for the candidate that has the east district in their mind, not the present slavery in the land, as orchestrated by the present administration.

However, “the Igala development project”, an organ of sensitization  drummed it up to the people of the district to prevail upon Idris Ibrahim, former governor of the state and his son, Abubakar Ibrahim to imbibe spirit of politics without bitterness, by  withdrawing  their case in court over issues arising from party primary election, in the interest of Igala kingdom.

The body said the Igala nation have been fair to the said family politically, and as such should allow the voice of reasons to prevail, as there is always the next time in politics, especially since the young man is still within the age bracket to take a shot at the exalted position next time.
