The Secretary, Media Committee of APC Bello/Onoja Campaign Council, Mr. Tom Ohikere has called on security agencies in Kogi State to take a step to bolster the confidence of electorate during the November 16th election and prevent violence.
In a statement signed by him and copy of which was made available to WESTERN POST in Lokoja on Sunday, said the security must prevent violence in the coming election in Kogi State
Ohikere disclosed that political violence poses a serious threat to the legitimacy of state and federal elections in Nigeria, noting that from time immemorial not all of this violence can be directly linked to the results of the elections, but the heightened tension creation by some actors in the competition.
According to him, “In the next two weeks preceding the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi state, the utmost vigilance by political parties, security agencies and government is urgently required to ensure that political tension is kept in check.
“The danger of clashes will not necessarily subside once the election is over.
He, therefore, urged the government, INEC, security agencies must take serious steps now to bolster the confidence of the people in the election and thereby preventing post election violence.
I am saying this against the threat coming from PDP camp, the deaths recorded already by the APC and the arrests made and arms seized yesterday in Dekina local government from PDP.
