No fewer than 1000 women have benefited from the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Matthew Kolawole as part of his empowerment programme in an effort to make them self- reliant in his constiuency.
Kolawole disclosed this while speaking at the venue of hos empowerment programme at St Augustine College, Kabba, said in was in politics to empower the less privilege people.
The beneficiaries who were widowsgathered at St. Augustine college hall, Kabba to received foods items, vocational equipments and financial gifts to commence or support their businesses.
The Speaker explained the gesture was informed by his desire to impact positively on the lives of his people, particularly the women folks positively and make efforts towards pulling them out of poverty and lack of capacity for self reliance.
Kolawole said his dream as a politician was to ensure that he improves the lives of his people, by providing them with required tools to enhnace their quality of life and those of their loved ones.
“For the sake of my people, I am ready to work together with the executive arm of government and other necessary stakeholders, to see to it that my people are impacted positively.
“Democracy, to me, is about the ordinary people out there. It is about making concerted efforts to see that a better life is provided for the people who have given us their mandate to represent them at the various levels of governance.”
One of the traditional rulers in the area, Chief Gbenga Olutobaje described the empowerment programme for women as unprecedented in the annals of politics in Kabba/Bunu state constituency.
He said the Speaker is among the best legislators that have represented the area and called the people to support him so that he can succeed both as a legislator and as one of the sons of Okunland.
Other traditional rulers and elders that spoke, lauded the Speaker for the manner he has continued to give good representation to the people and pleaded that he keeps his good works going.
On their part, the beneficiaries could not hide their joy as they took turn to eulogize the person of the legislator and prayed God to reward him.
Madam Sewa Arokoyo, who was giving financial assistance said it would help her offset some of his bills and take care of her children school fees.
The Speaker had three months ago also gave out grinding machines, computer sets, power generating sets, refrigerators, female hair dressing equipments amidst others to his constituency.
