Kunle Afolayan Laments As Pirated Copies of “October 1” Hit The Streets

A group of people have recently released pirated copies of ‘October 1’ starring Kunle Afolayan as one of the main character of the movie.

Some movie pirates in Nigeria threatened to release Kunle’s 2014 hit movie ‘October 1’ after the production of the movie sometimes in the year 2014. The threats led to the controversial tweet by Kunle Afolayan, accusing the Igbos of being responsible for piracy in Nigeria.

On Monday, April 13, 2015, the Filmmaker took to his Instagram page to alert fans that pirated copies of the movie are being sold on the streets of Lagos.

Kunle Afoloyan also pleaded with fans not to patronize the sellers.

“Pirated copies of October 1 film is now released by the Pirates and everywhere on the street. We have been announcing and alerting the people on government for years. Is this how we will fold our hands and look? It is my turn today, it may be yours tomorrow. I am devastated. It’s a hostile country. PLEASE DO NOT BUY.”.

In a recent interview with Channels Television, Kunle revealed that he is yet to realize half of the money used in making the movie.

‘October 1’ is currently the highest award winning movie of the year 2015 which had a total of 13 nominations during the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and it won the awards for ‘Best movie’, ‘Best Director (Kunle Afolayan) and ‘Best Actress in a Drama’ (Kehinde Bankole).

It also won the awards for ‘Best Costume Designer’ (Deola Sagoe), ‘Best Lighting Designer’ (Lanre Omofaye), ‘Best Make-Up Artist’ (Lola Maja), ‘Best Sound Editing’ (Kulanen Ikyo), ‘Best Art Director’ (Pat Nebo) and ‘Best Drama Writer’ (Tunde Babalola).

The movie features the likes of Sadiq Daba, Kehinde Bankole and many more.
