The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 21, 2016 for the conduct of the bye-election into the Kwara State House of Assembly seat in Oke Ero Local Government Area following the death of the former occupant in
February.

The Head of Department of General Administration at INEC, Dr Sadiq Dariga, announced this at the stakeholders
meeting convened by the commission to discuss how and when to conduct the bye-election to fill the vacant post.

He said the national headquarters of INEC had fixed May 21 for the bye election and urged the political parties
to be abreast of the rules and regulations

Elaborating on the plan for the bye election, the HOD, Voters Education and Publicity, Jacob Ayanda, urged the
political parties to guard against crisis during the election, adding that the use of the card reader would be
strengthened.

The representative of the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Yahya, also assured the stakeholders of the
readiness of the police to maintain law and order.

Some of the representatives of the political parties, however, urged INEC to maintain neutrality and provide a
level playing ground to ensure credible election.

Both the political parties and the security agencies agreed to ensure free, fair and credible election without
crisis and urged the umpire not to be biased in the conduct of the election.
