The Kwara State chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo has counselled eldest son of the erstwhile governor of the state, late Alhaji Mohammed Lawal, Akeem to sustain his father’s legacies.
Oyedepo gave the advice in Ilorin, while receiving in audience members of the Mohammed Lawal group of the PDP led by the eldest son of the deceased politician, Alhaji Akeem Lawal.
The chairman, who served as chief whip of the State House of Assembly during the Lawal administration between 1999 and 2003, maintained that the administration impacted positively on the lives of people.
His words: “I am a Lawalite to the core. As a major participant in that government, I can confirm that all the projects and programmes embarked upon by Lawal administration, have positives impacts on Kwarans.
“It is the light of this that I admonished you to build up the legacies of your late father with a view to sustaining them. A decade after the demise of the former governor, people are still endeared to him. This is a good testimony of what he had contributed to their lives”.
Oyedepo also assured members of the party that he would not align with any group within the PDP, saying he would foster unity of purpose in order to ensuring victory for the party in 2015 polls.
Earlier in speech, Lawal urged the newly elected executives to strengthening the PDP structures in the State with a view to working towards unity in the party.
He further pledged the group’s unflinching loyalty and supports to the newly constituted executive council of the party.
“Our coming here today is to congratulate you on your victory at the polls. Besides, we want to advice you not to align with any individual or group within our party.
“Your election into office is divinely arranged by God. Therefore, work assiduously towards success of PDP in next year elections. We are assuring that we are going to give you all the necessary supports to make you succeed,” he declared.
Others members of the group in the entourage included former state chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Abiodun Usman, erstwhile Chief of Staff, Alhaji Suleiman Olowojare among others.
