A total of 2,582 have performed Jerusalem pilgrims from Kwara State between 2010 and 2019, our correspondent has gathered.
The above figure cut across self-sponsored, local government areas sponsored and state governments sponsored.
The Press Secretary, Kwara State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board Mrs Bola Sadiq made this known in a telephone conversation with Western Post.
She disclosed to our correspondent that Local government sponsorship was stopped in 2005 while State sponsorship was also slashed drastically in 2015.
She said the figure could be jacked up when government and state sponsorship are restored.
Sadiq disclosed further that N750,000.00 was the fee to be paid by an intending pilgrim for 2020 spiritual exercise that comes up twice a year; March and December.
She said there was no record of death in the years under review.
She said, “My advice to Christians is that, Christian pilgrimage is biblical and it’s an injunction given by God as seen in Zechariah 8:22, Psalm 84:5, Jeremiah 3:17 and 1King 9: 3b,that Christians should gather in Jerusalem to seek the face of God.
“It is a unique opportunity to visit the Land of the Bible and the Home Land of Jesus. It is an opportunity for Christians to see historical sites mentioned in the Bible.
“It is an opportunity to visit sites of great Bible events, especially where Jesus was born, where he lived, where he did his ministry, where he was arrested, tortured, crucified and buried,” she explained.
She noted that pilgrims usually have deeper understanding of Christ, which challenges their commitments and hunger for spiritual things and their love for the only true and living God.
