KWIRS to Generates 34 Billion ‎in 2017 if…

The Chairman Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Dr Muritala Awodun has said with proposed budget presented by governor of the state Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on 27th of December 2‎016 to House of Assembly,the service intend to generate N34 Billion for the year 2017 if the House of Assembly do not increase or reduce the estimation.
‎Awodun disclosed this at Media parley held at the Kwara State Ministry of Information on Tuesday in Ilorin.
The Chairman said out of N26 Billion targeted last year a total of N17.48 Billion was generated.
“With Budget presented to House of Assembly by the governor,the service is to generate N34 Billion which could be less or more depending on the House decision”.
“First quarter of 2016 we budgeted 4.2 Billion we generated 3.1 Billion, second quarter 6.6 Billion was budgeted we generated 4.98 Billion,third quarter 7.2Billion was proposed 4.18Billion was generated while 4.86 was generated in forth quarter against N8Billion totalling N17.48 Billion generated for year 2016″he explained.
The Lecturer turned tax Collector said ‎Kwara state has become a case study in revenue generating as other states like Lagos, Kogi, Bauchi, Zamfara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), came to understudy it’s strategies.
Awodun noted that challenges were faced in raking in money from Informal and property tenancy sectors which was sorted out withing the first six months of the year 2016.
He expressed optimism that there are potential for generating more than budgeted revenue for 2017 even when it will be done with human face.
Earlier the Commissioner for Information and Communication Alhaji Babatunde Ajeigbe said the KWIRS remains Flagship agency as they are in charge of revenue.
Ajeigbe explained that the end of the year/ new year media parley ‎was organised so the Agency could tell how it has achieved it’s target in the past year, what they’ve done wrong and it’s target for the new year 2017.
