The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Chapter, has congratulated the Governor of Ondo state, Mr Olurotimi Akeredolu on his re-election, saying that his victory was a referendum on his sterling performance in the first term.

In a congratulatory statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Seye Oladejo, on Sunday, stated that Akeredolu’s re-election was described as a testimony of the state as progressive that is desirous and deserving of good governance.

“The victory is a referendum on his sterling performance in the first term to the commendation and appreciation of the good people of Ondo state, but to the consternation and bewilderment of his political opponents.

“His victory is a further testimony of Ondo state as progressive that is desirous and deserving of good governance.

“The majority endorsement of Akeredolu is a challenge to build on his past achievements and address the yearnings of the people.

“The victory of the ruling APC shows that the opposition is no match whenever we have all hands on deck working for the overall interest of the party. It reinforces our conviction that the loss of Edo state was an own goal which is not beyond redemption in the near future.

“By the same token, we congratulate Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu who as the chairman of the Ondo state Campaign council for Governorship election brought his Midas touch to bear to ensure the desired result.

“Hopefully, governance which has literally grounded to a halt in the opposition PDP states as a result of their governors’ desperation to snatch victory in APC states will now mercifully resume,” said Lagos APC.

Recall that the people of Ondo state went to the polls on yesterday (Saturday) to elect who would govern the state for the next 4years.

On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election.

Akeredolu was returned elected after defeating his challengers: candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede; Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, and 14 others.

The Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Idowu Olayinka, said Akeredolu satisfied the constitutional requirements to be declared the winner.

“Having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the APC as the winner, and he is hereby returned elected,” Professor Olayinka declared.

The governor secured a total of 292,830 votes while Jegede garnered 195,791 votes. Ajayi came a distant third with 69,127 votes.

Akeredolu will serve another four-term as governor of Ondo State.
