In a bid to provide for the protection and care of person suffering from mental disorders, the Lagos State House of Assembly has adopted the report on “The Lagos State Mental Health Service Bill” by the House Committee on Health Services.
The 18 pages report read by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abdul Hakeem Sokunle, highlighted recommendations that were later adopted by the House.
Some of the lawmakers expressed worry over the name of the facility to avert embarrassment of visiting patients. Also, some of the grey areas which include among others inadequate punitive measures on rape cases or sexual harassment cases of psychiatrist patient amongst other issues were corrected.
It would be recalled that the House saddled the Health Committee with the task of scrutinizing the bill on the 13th May, 2018 and a Public Hearing to that effect was done on the 1st of August, 2018.
Hon. Abdul Hakeem Sokunle responded to the raised issues and promised to act on the suggestions made.
