……… Asks Eti Osa LG Chairman, Council Engineer, CM, Others To Appear Before House
The Lagos State House of Assembly through the Committee On Local Government and Community Affairs, has charged council chairmen in the state on accountability and transparency, saying that public funds must be judiciously spent to enhance social development.
Chairman, House Committee On Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. AbdulSobur Olawale, speaking during the oversight tour to Iru/Victoria Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Eti-Osa local government on Wednesday, charged council chairmen to be prudent in spending and ensure that projects executed justify money spent.
He also charged councillors to be proactive in their legislative duties, saying that they have legislative power to invite executives for questioning on issues of public importance.
Olawale further lauded the chairperson of Iru/Victoria LCDA, Mrs Rashidat Adu on her performance and welfare of the council staff and political officers.
” With what we have seen here in Iru/Victoria LCDA, I can authoritatively say Mrs Adu has performed wonderfully well and I will use this opportunity to tell other council chairmen to emulate her. The legislative chamber is well furnished and equipped. This shows she understands the importance of the legislature in strengthen democracy at the grassroots.We are satisfied with what she has done so far”, said Olawale.
Also, a member of the committee, who spoke with journalists at Eti Osa local government, Hon. Kehinde Joseph, expressed satisfaction with the projects executed by the council, encouraging the chairman to continue to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people.
Joseph said that the roads and buildings built by the chairman were well constructed, adding that with what the committee had seen, the spending of tax payers money was justified.
He applauded the chairman for creating an enabling legislative environment for the councillors to function well, saying ‘ With that it will strengthen the legislative arm of the council’.
Speaking with journalists separately, the chairperson of Iru/Victoria LCDA, Mrs Rashidat Adu and the chairman of Eti-Osa local government, Mr Saheed Bankole, said the committee’s visitation to their councils respectively would charge them to do more interms of public goods delivery and good governance, saying that the visitation was timely as it would give them the opportunity to be proactive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
