Lagos Assembly Committee Chides Iba LCDA Chairperson For Poor Execution Of Projects

…….Summons Council Vice Chairman, Procurement Officer, Contractors, Council Engineer

The House Committee On Local Government and Community Affairs of the Lagos state House of Assembly, on Tuesday, chided the Chairperson of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alhaja Ramota Oseni, for poor execution of projects in the council area, summoning council Vice chairman, council engineer, contractors and others to appear before it on April 1st.

During the oversight tour to the LCDA, the Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Abdulsobur Olawale Olayiwola, expressed dismay on the state of things in the council, inviting a local government contractor to House of Assembly to come and explain why a primary school project executed in 2018 had started deteriorating in less than 3years.

Olayiwola added ” I am not impressed with the state of things in Iba LCDA. Look at a project that was completed in 2018 (refering to Iba Estate Primary school), look at the classrooms where children are learning,  we are inviting the contractor to Alausa to come and explain to us”.

The Committee Chairman further complained about ongoing projects that were already fully paid for without completion, suspected contract inflation and other irregularities.

“We like to see the Vice Chairman of the council, the Procurement Officer, the Legal Officer, the Council Engineer and the contractors at Alausa on the 1st of April, 2021 to clarify certain things regarding some projects”, said Olayiwola.

According to the Committee Chairman, the essence of the visit to the LGAs is to examine and inspect projects executed by local governments and ask questions where necessary.

“We wil be more concerned about health and education related projects. we are here to also find out the kind of relationship that exist between the council and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the councillors who are major stakeholders in the LG administration”, said Olayiwola.

Responding to the observations, the Chairperson of the LCDA, Alhaja Ramota Oseni, said that the report presented by the Council Engineer, Engr. Wesu Medese, was not a true reflection of things as she was still new in the LCDA.

Concerning some of the completed projects , particularly Iba Estate Primary school which was already in bad shape, Oseni said , “I am not an engineer, when this project was constructed I was here to inspect it, everything was okay, other projects done same time are still intact, how the pupils here have managed to bring this to this state is what I don’t understand”.

However, the chairman and the committee members gave Ojo LG a pass mark for good presentation and projects executed, advising the Council Chairman to improve on certain areas mentioned.

The Executive Chairman of Ojo Local government area , Alhaji Rasulu Idowu, appreciated the committee for the observations raised while promising that the council would improve on the grey areas mentioned.

Meanwhile, the House Committee had visited Somolu local government yesterday, where it inspected the rehabilitated Durosimi street, Onafowokan street and the newly built Primary Healthcare Centre which would be commissioned in few weeks’ time.

The House Committee applauded the performance of Mr Abdul Hamed Salawu led administration of the Council on his performance in areas of Education, works & infrastructure, healthcare, social welfare and other people oriented programmes.
