Death toll from the collapsed building at Gerrard road ikoyi has been put to thirty six.This was said when Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu inaugurated the panel of inquiry to investigate the cause of the twenty one story collapsed building in Ikoyi.
The Governor also signed an executive order to give legal backing to the panel during the ceremony at the headquarters of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, Falomo where members of the panel would be sitting.
Governor Sanwo-olu charged members of the panel which is chaired by the President of the National Institute of Town Planners, Mr Toyin Ayinde, to be professional and factual in their findings. Others include Dr Akintilo Idris Adeleke, Arc Yinka Ogundairo Bldr, Godfrey C. Godfrey, Mrs Bunmi Ibraheem, Mrs Ekundayo Onajobi as Secretary.
The Governor expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident, said no stone would be left unturned to ensure that justice is served and to bring closure to families who lost loved ones in the incident.
Sanwo-Olu urged members of the panel not to hesitate in seeking an extension in case the thirty days term of reference giving is not enough.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said the panel of inquiry has the mandate to unravel the circumstances surrounding the collapsed building with a view to bringing all culprits to Justice to avert recurrence and serve as deterrent to other stakeholders.
Giving a vote assurance, the Chairman of the panel, Mr Toyin Ayinde promised that thorough investigation would be conducted without fear or favour.
