As residents of the Lagos East Senatorial District and Kosofe Constituency 2 prepare to elect their representatives in the forthcoming bye-elections slated for 31st of October, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, has banned mass and on the spot rallies during its campaign.
This was made known by the Lagos State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, in his speech on Monday during the campaign flag-off of the Lagos East Senatorial District Bye-election.
Balogun, who read out the mode of campaign, stated that the campaign must be COVID-19 protocol complaint.
While inaugurating the campaign committee, Balogun stated that the campaign team reflects the new realities in the party, saying that no recognition was given to groups but all members of the party.
” The Lagos State Chapter of the APC has carefully put an all-inclusive campaign committee together. The campaign team reflects the new realities in Lagos APC. No recognition or regard is given to groups, rather, all members of the party are APC members.
” Therefore, the supremacy of the party as an entity is emphasized, as the saying goes ‘ THE PARTY IS SUPREME’. No group stands any chance in taking undue advantage over the other and that has been the guiding principle in the formation of this campaign committee.
” At the last general elections, we had a campaign organization known as the Independent Campaign Group (ICG). The organization was constituted mostly by vibrant, enthusiastic and result-oriented members of the party.
” Their efforts in contributing to the victory of the party in the last general elections in 2019 must be commended, but the new reality now in the party is that the control, management, overseeing the campaign and conduct of elections lie in the hands of the APC State Chapter.
” No Independent Campaign Organization exist anymore. APC as a political party reigns supreme in party matters. Henceforth, apart from the party state executives, the LGA party chairmen, and the Ward chairmen must be given due regards and recognition in their various local governments and wards accordingly”, said Balogun.
The party chairman commended the entire party leaders and members for the peaceful conduct of its primaries.
He acknowledged the sacrifice of other aspirants who conceded to the idea of a consensus as provided for in APC constitution.
However, a hundred man campaign committee led by the Vice Chairman, Lagos East Senatorial District, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya as chairman and Chief Bode Oyedele as his Vice was inaugurated.
The membership includes all House of Representatives, all council chairmen, all Lagos House of Assembly, all members of Lagos state executive council, all LGA chairmen of the party and all appointees and members of the state boards and parastatals from the district.
The campaign committee has sub- committees for planning and strategy, mobilization, publicity, finance, security, Youth matters, logistics, protocol, women affairs, legal, special duties and welfare.
