Lagos PDP Begins State Congress Behind Schedule



The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state has commenced its state congress at a very late hour of 6:05pm.

The congress which was scheduled to start by 8am on Sunday witnessed heavy security presence at the venue.

While addressing the accredited delegates before commencement, the Chairman of the Congress Organising Committee and governor of Balyesa state, Sen. Douye Diri, said the congress was a unifying one and a family affair, adding that the delegates should act based on the instruction and agreement reached by their leaders and elders.

Diri stated that the outcome of the congress would unify the Lagos PDP and prepare the party to taking over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

He said that the Committee was authorised by the National body of the party to conduct the congress, saying that the committee had met with the leaders and elders yesterday to come together to form common front.

Diri said the leaders had agreed to work together and that the Committee expects the congress to be peace so as to build the party in Lagos ahead 2023.

He charged the delegates to vote on the consensus list that was drawn by the leaders at the strategic meeting.

The Congress Committee Chairman said in case the delegates did not believe in the concensus arrangement of the leaders, they were free to exercise their franchise.

Meanwhile, two harmonised list was in circulation at Congress venue, indicating that there might not be common front.
