Lagos PDP Holds Congress Amidst Tight Security

Security operatives, including the Police , men of the Department of State Service (DSS) and OP MESA took charge on Sunday as the Lagos state Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held its State congress.

The congress  took place at Airways Ground by Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja.

Several patrol vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carrier were also stationed at the roads leading to the event centre.

The congress which was yet to commence as at 4:30pm, had some accredited delegates yet to arrive the centre from where the congress organising committee was accrediting them.

The delegates were expected to only ratify the list of concensus candidates agreed by the leaders on Saturday at their strategic meeting.

Speaking with journalists at the venue, a delegate and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Rita Orji, said the congress was a ‘family affair’ and that the concensus arrangement would be abided with.

Orji said that the congress would be a death sentence for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

WesternPost had reported that the party’s leaders and elders had resolved to have a concensus arrangement to pick the executive officers of the party.

It was reliably gathered that the State Chairmanship slot had been allotted to the Bode George’s camp while other positions shared among the remaining leaders.
