It appears that the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) highest decision making body, the Governor’s Advisory Council and the Executive Governor of the state, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be meeting today (Tuesday) to deliberate on the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
WESTERNPOST learnt that the secretary of the body, Chief Mutiu Are, had issued a notice of meeting scheduled to hold at the residence of the governor at Marina, in Lagos Island.
The meeting is expected to set the tone for the party’s primaries and to also douse the tension among grassroots politicians aspiring for various offices in the local government polls.
There had been tension and speculation that before the expiration of the tenure of the current Council Chairmen in June this year, the state government would set up caretaker Committee across the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas.
Despite assurances by the State’s election body, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC that arrangements were being put in place for the exercise, politicians across all the parties demanded for a time-table.
It will be recalled that LASIEC few weeks ago disclosed that it had dispatched non-sensitive election materials to local councils and inspected the offices for smooth operations.
The state electoral body also organised training for its staff to address challenges that may occur during the polls.
It has also picked July this year to conduct council elections across the state.
