Governor Seyi Makinde has told members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to conduct free and fair elections when the time for the local government election comes in the state.
Governor Makinde gave the admonition while seeking approval of the State House of Assembly for the body.
Meanwhile, the state House of Assembly had on Thursday during its plenary screened and confirmed the appointment of members of OYSIEC as requested by the governor.
Governor Makinde had on Tuesday forwarded the list of the OYSIEC members to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The Committee has Barrister Isiaka Olagunju as Chairman, while Comrade Adeniyi Afeez Babatunde, Alhaja Ganiyat Saka, Mr Olanrewaju Emmanuel, Chief Kunle Agboola, Mr Remi Ayoade, Mr Sunday Falana and Mr Adeojo Elias as proposed members.
The Speaker, Hon. Ogundoyin, described the newly-appointed Committee members as people of proven integrity whose honesty and forthrightness is not in doubt.
“I, therefore, urge you to bring your professional experiences to bear in your new assignment as the Oyo State Government has reposed its confidence in you hence we expect you to conduct free and fair Local Government elections for the state,” the Speaker said.
While answering questions during the screening, the Chairman of OYSIEC, Barrister Isiaka Olagunju described his new appointment as a call to duty adding that members of the Committee will not let the state down.
Barrister Olagunju promised that OYSIEC members would not be found wanting in the discharge of their duties especially when it is conducting Local Government elections.
