The Lagos State Waste Management Agency, LAWMA, “Own a bin” programme has received yet another boost following the donation of smart waste bins by Waste Care Solutions & Resources Management Limited.
The smart bins comes with distinct QR Codes that can be scanned using a smartphone, store information, making it possible to track both waste collection, segregation, and also reward houses with points.
On hand to receive the donation was the Acting Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni and other management staff of the agency.
Stressing on the need for every household to have a waste bin, Odumboni said while the state has achieved a high level of success with its containerization of waste campaign, partnerships like this one will further boost the work already ongoing.
Odumboni said Safety is the number one priority in waste management and it is a shared responsibility that starts in Containerized Waste Collection.
“What we are working towards is to make sure every household in Lagos has a waste bin for easy and safe waste disposal. We know that given the present economic situation, buying a waste bin might not be so easy for some people. But with this ‘own a bin initiative,’ people are able to adopt a personal waste bin with a very convenient repayment plan,” Odumboni said.
With the rapid increase in population, accelerated urbanization and industrialization in Lagos State, the amount of household and commercial waste generation in Lagos State has continued to increase posing as a great challenge to the state.
Nevertheless, the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu have launched several initiatives to tackle the challenges of waste disposal in the state and have so far recorded a lot of success.
