Some leaders of the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria are in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory to discuss how to further engage the process and modalities for the forthcoming national conference proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The meeting slated for THISDAY Dome at the Central Business District holds today, February 11 and tomorrow, February 12.
The recent announcement of the national conference modalities has generated some misgivings among ethnic nationally groups that some of the leaders of the groups are already threatening to mobilise for a boycott of the national confab
According to a statement issued in Abuja by the Secretary-General of the Ethnic Nationalities Movement, ENM, Mr Micheal Orobator, this emerging trend among others had necessitated the intervention to urgently bring together self determination groups and indigenous nationalities in Nigeria for a two-day national consultation to ensure that the proposals of the Federal Government is further finetuned and owned by the nationalities and peoples of Nigeria in making the proposed national confab a success.
Leaders of delegations from the diverse nationalities and indigenous peoples of Nigeria expected to lead the national consultation themed “Towards a truly Representative National Conference” include Elder statesman and Eminent Jurist, Prof Ben NWANBUEZE, Chief Ayo Adebanjo of Afenifere, Prof Jerry Gana, Chair of the Middle belt Forum, General Alani Akinriade, Commodre Dan SULEMAN,Solomon Asemota, SAN, Leaders of PRONACO and the Patriots among others.
The two day conference promises to be very consultative in giving direction to the proposed national conference initiated by the Federal Government,” ENM stated.
