The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), on Friday urged the various political parties participating in the forthcoming local government elections to cooperate with it to ensure successful elections on July 24, this year.
The electoral body made the appeal through its Chairman, Hon. Ayotunde Phillips (rtd), at a consultative parley with state party chairmen held at LASIEC office in Yaba, Lagos.
Phillips appealed to political parties to be part of the efforts on voter education and enlightenment to stem the tide of voter apathy, political thuggery and violent conduct before, during and after elections.
She advocated inclusivity mechanism for women, youths, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable in political parties activities so that the democratic space could further widened.
” The commission shall continue to build strong partnership with critical stakeholders, the civil societies, media, political parties, security agencies, NGOs, community/religious leaders, market associations and other interest groups in ensuring that the commission has credible polls.
” Our new website will soon be unveiled to further boost interaction between the commission and our various publics. Online incident reporting through our website to ensure prompt resolution of crisis and challenges are also taking centre stage,” said Phillips
At the parley are; the State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Tunde Balogun, his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Engr Deji Doherty, and the executives of the Lagos state Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
