Community Leaders and security stakeholders in the 33 local government areas of Oyo State have been urged to ensure peaceful conduct of members of their respective communities before and after Saturday’s Council election.
Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on OYSIEC Matters, Tallest Innocent during a stakeholders’ meeting with members of Oyo State Community development Council held in Ibadan on Friday, said the election should be devoid of clashes by supporters of the different aspirants.
The election will hold between 6am and 3pm on Saturday across the 33 councils in the state.
According to him, the meeting became inevitable in order to rob minds with stakeholders on how to ensure that peace reigns supreme in their communities before and after the election.
He said: “It is an empirical fact that some contestants will win the election to various post while some will lose.
“Let us encourage all the contestants in our community to accept the outcome of the election in good faith and support the winners to turn around the fortune of dear state.”
In their different contributions, community leaders and representatives of various security organizations at the event commended the state government for organising the stakeholders’ meeting, adding that this will encourage them to do more.
Speaking, the state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who was represented by Adeniyi Akande, while commending the state governor for working hard to ensure peaceful conduct of the election, assured the community leaders and other stakeholders of adequate security during the exercise.
