Oyo State commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu

By Richard Thomas, Ibadan

The  Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Shina Olukolu psc(+) has assured residents of the state of adequate security saying they will be protected and covered at all times.

The assurance followed recent uproar from members of some communities in Ibadan and environs alleging threat by miscreants who are taking advantage of the lockdown to robbed them.

The police boss spoke with Journalists after a security meeting with some Heads of security in the State.

According to him,  the police in the state have been responding promptly to security issues even before the recent uproar by the people that miscreants are robbing them, a situation caused the lockdown and necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are on top of the situation in the state, but the people have this tendency of psychological carryover of event around them on a kind of panic.

“They give reports as if something is happening in their own place and when you ask some of them what is happening, they won’t be able to give you a specific account of the thing going on with them.

“What they have succeeded doing is creating panic for themselves, and what we need to do is to reassure ourselves, because we already have an antidote and that antidote is what we have already put in place. That is, to do further reinvigorating and reexamination.”

The police boss said the people should be rest assured that they will be covered and protected at all times.

CP Olukolu appealed to them to be sure of what exactly they are talking about on security issues and refused to be cowed on what is happening around them.

“Security is a collective responsibility, and before COVID-19 we have been having issues on security and about threat. That doesn’t mean we didn’t deal with them, we dealt with them.

“I want to assured you that the police is on top of the situation and  there won’t be something like that.”
