A man has been jailed for four weeks for attempting to burgle Jose Mourinho’s London home as the football manager watched television.
Sky News reports that the Manchester United boss heard screams from one of his maids on Sunday 10 July, which alerted him to the fact that a man was trying to break into the basement of his £25m property.
Pictures published in The Sun newspaper show Mourinho looking out of a window at police officers as they arrested 25-year-old Gabor Roman.
It is thought the Portuguese was watching his home country beat France in the Euro 2016 final at the time of the attempted break-in.
A few hours earlier, Mourinho was at Wimbledon watching Andy Murray win the men’s singles title.
The maid had reportedly been ironing when she saw Roman trying to get in through the basement door.
It is understood he tried to run away, but was stopped by a security guard before eight police officers arrived, and escorted him away in handcuffs.
Roman, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to attempting to burgle the multimillion-pound home at Westminster magistrates’ court on Tuesday.
Mourinho took over from Louis Van Gaal as the manager of Manchester United in May.
