An Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 32-years-old man, Adeyemo Mayowa Adekunle for beating his son with a stick and cigarette light.
The Police prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 25, 2020 at about 1:30pm at Okinni area, Osogbo.
Fagboyinbo further said that Adekunle did beat up his 18months old son with stick and cigarette light to the extent that he sustained injury all over his body.
According to him, the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 355 and 33(1)(2) laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.
The defendant who has no legal representation pleaded not guilty to the two counts charges slammed against him by the police.
He explained that the child is his fifth born and that he fell like beating him anytime he set his eye on him.
The accused added that his problem was a spiritual problem from his mother.
In her ruling, Magistrate Modupe Awodele ordered the remand of the defendant in Ilesa correctional center
She, therefore, adjourned the matter till July 14 2020 for hearing.
