One person has been shot dead in Igbaye, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State after crisis erupted during the end of the year carnival celebration in the town.

It was gathered that the crisis was as a result of misunderstanding that started at the venue of the carnival.

It was further learnt that the clashes between the parties involved was not unconnected with the tussle over Onigbaye stool.

WesternPost also learnt that when the DJ was playing music, one of the factions considered it to be demeaning and offensive, thereby forced the DJ to stop the music but the other factions objected.

The matter was said to have resulted in a brawl and free-for-all as a yet-to-be-identified man shot one of the rivals.

The man that was shot, was said to have been rushed to a hospital in Okuku, where he eventually gave up the ghost.

A resident said: “The cause of the fight was because of ill-fighting over kingship position. One man was shot dead while others sustained machete cuts.”

The spokesperson of Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola confirmed that there was unrest arising from the carnival celebration in the town.

Opalola who did not comment on the number of casualties said “the Commissioner has deployed our tactical teams. The unrest started from a carnival celebration. But our men are on ground and the situation has been brought under control.”
