A management expert, Mr. Emmanuel Shaibu has called on Federal, State and Local Governments to always engage chartered management practitioners as departmental and sectional heads Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to check corruption.
Shaibu who made this call in a paper titled: “Chartered Management Practitioners and Consultants”, presented at a General Monthly Meeting of Lokoja/Ajaokuta chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) in Lokoja.
He noted that management as a profession cut across all other professions and to avoid corruption in government and institutional businesses, chartered professionals ought to be engaged to ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability.
The management expert noted that NIM certified professional managers were trained to discharge their duties with discipline, transparency, integrity, responsibility and accountability among other professional requirements.
“I recommend that professional managers with NIM certificates be made to head the units, sections, divisions and departments if employed by the Federal, State, Local Governments and Higher Institutions.
“This is because they are mostly scrupulous and transparently honest in their work and free from corrupt practices and fraudulent indulgence”, he said.
Shaibu described them as specialists in the art of management, specially trained with special skills to appraised and analyse overall situations and provide solutions to managerial problems.
“Professional managers have the requisite skills to effectively appraise the overall situation and make important recommendations in crisis situations.
“Transparency, accountability, equity, fairness, efficiency and effectiveness are their watchwords” he added.
Shaibu also urged Small and Medium Enterprises, institutions and organizations to, in view of the numerous advantages, always engage the services of consultants for professional recommendations.
