Nigeria U-20s defeated Abuja Football College 3-0 in a test match played at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja on Wednesday, but it was not enough to impress their coach who insists there is still room for improvement.

Coach Manu Garba was particular about his team’s offence.

“I am not happy with the attack even though we scored three goals. The mobility upfront fell below expectations, there were not enough good runs in the attack and our finishing could have been better,” he said.

“The midfield and defence did well, but there was a momentary loss of concentration in the defence very late in the game, which almost resulted in a goal against us.

“But overall it was a good match against a very good Abuja Football College.”

The Flying Eagles took the lead as early as the third minute through team leading scorer Alhassan Ibrahim, when he fired home from a very tight angle.

Thereafter there were also chances for Kelechi Iheanacho, Sulaiman Abdullahi and Abdullahi Alfa, but they failed to take it.

Two minutes from half time, Ifeanyi Matthew doubled the Flying Eagles advantage when he picked his spot and fired home a low shot from outside the goal area.

After the interval, Abuja College piled on the pressure to reduce the deficit but the Flying Eagles defence led by Wilfred Ndidi stood in their way.

Ndidi scored a third goal for the Nigeria U20s in the 63rd minute when he drove through the opposing defence before he scored.

Midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew was sent off in the 74th minute for retaliation.

Substitute Anthony Omaka then had a chance to score a fourth goal for the Flying Eagles in the 77th minute but he shot wide off target from deep inside the box when it would have been much easier to score.

David Okereke had two chances in the closing moments to hit target for the Flying Eagles against his academy, but he fired wide in the first instance and was denied by the goalkeeper at point-blank range thereafter.
