Many residents escaped death in Totoro axis of Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday morning as a tanker laden with diesel fell at the roundabout spilling its content on the road.
This, according to a traffic report, happened at exactly 9.50am when residents were heading for their different places of worship.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Comrade Babatunde Adebiyi, said the rescue operations were ongoing by the operatives of TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps, State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
He attributed the accident to brake failure.
Meanwhile, he urged motorists and other road users to remain calm and co-operate with traffic and safety managers at the scene of the incident.
He explained that traffic has been re-routed for those coming from Sapon and Totoro axis going to Lafenwa and those coming from Lafenwa going to Sapon and Totoro axis to follow the same lane, as rescue operation continues.
Speaking Alhaja Serifat Ajani who was a residence of Amororo compound, Totoro Abeokuta said they gave God all the glory as no life was lost in the accident.
