Ogun State Government has said it would continue to support and ensure maternal health, towards reducing child mortality rate.
The State Nutrition Officer, Mr. Olugbenga Idowu stated this during a chat with newsmen in Abeokuta, noting that Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) was one of the strategies aimed at addressing maternal health.
According to Idowu, the State had made available health interventions for women of child bearing age, such as, administration of Iron Folate and Folic Acid, counselling and testing on HIV, as well as, health education on key household practices, through MNCHW.
He also emphasised adequate balanced diet and early initiation of breastfeeding, advocating that mothers should ensure that children of age zero to six months were exclusively breastfed, for optimal immunity against killer diseases.
The State Nutrition Officer urged mothers and caregivers to embrace vaccination by following up on Routine Immunisation and observe personal hygiene practices, advising pregnant women to routinely attend ante-natal clinic, to ensure safe and healthy delivery.
