Engr. Danladi Yakubu Salihu of Ilesha/Gwanara representing Constituency of Baruten Local Government Area has emerged as the new Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Engr. Salihu was unanimously elected Speaker by 23 other members following his nomination by member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, Hon. Saheed Popoola and seconded by member representing Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Haliru Danbaba.
The new Speaker, Danladi was born on 31 May, 1985 in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State. He attended BLGEA Primary School, Gwanara from 1988-1993, before he proceeded to St. Anthony Secondary School Ilorin for his Secondary Education where he obtained his SSCE in the year 2001.
He later attended Kaduna Polytechnic where he obtained his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electrical Engineering from 2003-2008. He bagged a B.Eng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna in 2016.
Danladi served at National Water Resources Institute Kaduna during his one year compulsory National Service. He was a staff of Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna from 2010 till he voluntarily withdrew from service in 2018.
He has a vast leadership experience, having served as the Secretary, National Union of Baruten Student, Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter in the 2005/2006 session.
In 2008, he was a National Member on NAKSS constitution review. He was later elected as the Vice-president of Kwara North Student Union of the Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter in 2007/2008 Session. In the 2007/2008 he served as the Secretary of the National Association of Kwara State Student of the Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter.
In 2011, he was the Youth Co-ordinator of Buhari Campaign Organization under CPC (Kwara North Senatorial District). Also in 2015, he was the Youth Co-ordinator for Engr. Yinusa Yahaya Campaign Organization under PDP (Kwara North Senatorial District).
He was the Secretary, NYSC Tourism Club Kaduna from 2009-2010. In February 2019, he contested and won election as the Member, House of Assembly representing Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Also elected Deputy Speaker is Hon. Adetiba Olanrewaju Raphel of Oke-Ero Constituency, was also elected Deputy Speaker following his nomination by member representing Malete/IPaiye Oloru Constituency Hon. Babatunde Abdulkareem Paku and seconded by Hon. Member representing Share/Oke-Ode Constituency. Hon. AbdulRasaq Owolabi.
The election of the new presiding officers was sequel to the proclamation by Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRasaq and read at the floor of the House, by the Clerk, Hajia Halimat Jummai Kperogi.
Other principal officers unanimously elected were Hon. Abubakar Olawoyin Magaji, House Leader, Hon. Olarewaju Bello Deputy House Leader, Hon. Musa Yusuf Atoyebi Chief Whip and Hon. Jimoh Amuda Aliyu, Deputy Whip.
The new Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danladi Salihu, while reading his acceptance Speech, shortly after swearing-in of other members, assured that under his watch the House would champion the cause of common man, defend the rights and privileges of the poor to further make democracy more meaningful to the people of the State.
The Speaker who said the House would utilize the new opportunity to recover the state from the clutches of social, economic, political and infrastructural quagmire, by fashioning out legislative instrument that will lead the state to renaissance and make laws for the peace and good governance of the state.
To achieve this, he disclosed that the legislative arm of government would enhance the independence of the legislature, while maintaining robust and corporative relationship with the executive arm of government, improve oversight function, communication with the public. Strengthening of the House standing Committees and conduct of a legislative Need- Assessment.
The Speaker then enjoined his colleagues to be the mouth piece of the people of the state and praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its victory at the poll, pointing out that the victory was a brazen display of the clamour for change by the people of the State.
