Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Festus Ebea and three others were Tuesday suspended by the house on the grounds of misconduct.
Others affected by the suspension are the member representing Orhionmwon South, Hon Friday Ogieriakhi, Hon Jude Ise-Idehen, Ikpoba-Okha and Hon Patrick Osayinmen, Oredo East.
Moving for their suspension in a motion under matter of public urgent importance, the member representing Egor Constituency, Hon Paul Ohonbamu, which was seconded by the Majority Leader, Philip Shaibu said the activities of the members have become an embarrassment to the house.
Putting the motion to a voice vote, Speaker Uyi Igbe said consequent a motion moved by Hon Ohonbamu and Seconded by Hon Shaibu: “The four members mentioned on the list are hereby suspended forthwith as determine by the house. All such, vehicles and properties belonging to the house be withdrawn from them forthwith”.
He added that their suspension was in line of order 38 rule 3 of the house.
Speaking on the alleged misconduct of the Deputy Speaker, Chairman Edo State House of Assembly on Information, Youth and Sport, Hon Kabiru Adjoto said: “As you have heard, the deputy speakers and three others have been suspended from the Edo State House of Assembly.” Meantime, tension was high outside the complex as an army of youths laid siege on the assembly complex demanding for the suspension of the members.
APC Youth Leader in Oredo, Comrade Tony Kabaka Adun, had stormed the Assembly to demand for their removal from the house.
Reaction was still being awaited from the suspended members as at the time of filling this report.
