A 73-year-old man, Mubasiru Abiola on Monday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting at Isabo for allegedly defrauding a pastor by selling one acre of land to him and another person.
The Prosecutor, Insp Augustine Ozimini told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on May 17, 2013 at Obada-Oko in Abeokuta.
He said that the accused, who is the brother of the late MKO Abiola, defrauded one Pastor John Joseph under the pretence of selling one acre of land valued N1.5millon to Gospel Apostolic Church.
Ozimini said that the accused sold the land to the pastor knowing that he had already sold the land to some one else.
“The pastor was accosted on the land by the other person who had already bought it, when he went to confront the accused, Abiola refused to pay him back the said N1.5million,” he said.
The prosecutor submitted that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused who is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Adekunta admitted the accused into bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He then adjourned the case to January 20, 2015 for further hearing on the matter.
