Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo has impressed Chelsea enough for Jose Mourinho, manager of the English Premier League side to offer him a new and improved three-year deal.
Omeruo’s current deal with ‘The Blues’ will run out in June next year and so the London club have moved fast to make him a new offer.
“Chelsea have made Kenneth a new three-year deal, which his handlers are studying,” a top source close to the international defender.
“He has been doing well at Middlesbrough. They like him and Chelsea have received a good progress report on him.”
It is believed that negotiations will be concluded before Omeruo features at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with Nigeria.
The central defender, who will be 21 in October, joined Middlesbrough on loan from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
He has acquitted himself very well in the English Championship, but on Tuesday ‘Boro missed out on making the promotion playoffs to the EPL after they lost their second straight game.
They had first lost 2-1 to Millwall and on Tuesday night they again fell 2-0 at Reading.
