Retired Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr Olayide Adelami, has charged Muslims in Nigeria to use the Ramadan period to call on Allah to give the nation’s leaders divine wisdom to handle the challenges currently facing her.
Adelami gave the charge while felicitating with the Islam faithful as they begin the holy month of Ramadan.
He said in his message that the country was being confronted with myriads of problems that required the intercession of Allah.
“Today, our dear country needs the intervention of Allah. Insecurity is all over the place. The rate of poverty continues to soar. Nigerians are getting more and more divided.
“It is not because government is not trying its best to tackle these challenges. But the truth is that its best is not enough to take the country out of the woods. That’s why divine intervention is needed.
“Use the Ramadan period to intercede for the country. Pray for the country. Pray for our leaders so that things will be alright,” he said.
The retired civil servant said Ramadan fast signified cleansing, sacrifice, discipline and and self-control, justice and empathy for the less privileged.
He expressed hope that the Ramadan would promote continuous brotherhood, compassion and love for fellow citizens as well as strengthening the bond of unity and amity among Nigerians.
