Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has said his decision on what to do with the United States of America Green Card following the election of Donald Trump as President of that country is his personal decision.
He said Trump’s rhetoric before the election was anti-black and “particularly anti-Nigerian”, adding that he was at liberty to decide whether to continue to live in the US or not following Trump’s attitude.
Prof. Soyinka spoke on Monday at a press conference in Lagos monitored on Channels Television.
The Nobel Laureate condemned those hounding him on the internet over his decision on the Green Card, saying whatever he did with the card was his personal business.
He wondered why some people were wailing louder than the bereaved.
Prpf. Soyinka had threatened to tear his US Green Card if Trump won as president of America. And after Trump won in a development that shocked the whole world, many took interest in what Soyinka would do.
At one point, the nobel laureate said recently in South Africa that he was relocating home from the US and that he had indeed thrashed the card.
