N4Billion Loan: Kwara NLC Urges Gov. Ahmed to Get More Loan

Kwara State, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Comrade Yekin Agunbiade has called on Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to access more loan  to clear all salary arrears of Local government workers in the state.

The state government few days ago disbursed about four Billion naira sourced from Sterling bank which only took care of one month and some percentage out of several months arrears of some of the workers.
The NLC chairman made this call while speaking with Western post Correspondent  on the salary arrears off set loan,in Ilorin recently.
“We are hopeful the state government will look for another way to get more loan,we appreciate this  government as we were informed by people in the known that it’s not easy to get loan as federal government has put embargo on loan access but they can still do more.
“We are still praying the government look for ways to get more money,and we appeal to the government to pay the state workers their annual increment,sort promotion without cash backing,we want the state government to yield to health worker yarns to avoid work down tools,” he said. .
The Labour Leader said the loan was sourced from sterling bank and it will be paid  within eighteen months.
Agunbiade noted that there was agreement between the Council chairmen and state government before the loan was accessed.
“When we did the sharing formula the teachers in SUBEB get N2.105 Million,the Local government worker get N1.015 Million,pensioner get N400,000,000,former councillors get,N200,000,000 while the councils get N100,000,000,”‎ he added.
According to him for SUBEB N1.15 Million will off‎ set one month and about 90 percent same thing goes for Local government workers,and there are some LGs owed ten months while some are six months and SUBEB is about four to three months with 209 percent.
He added that they could not oppose the loan idea because the the situation with the concern workers was becoming unbearable.
“We needed to be very careful because an hungry man is an angry man the Labour can not tell the government not to take the loan,I will say the loan is helpful as they will get the normal salary at the end of the month,though we expect the government to clear the salary arrears before leaving office next year,” he said.
