Ever wondered why children of well-to-do and influential Nigerians like Late Lam Adesina, Chief Omololu Olunloyo, late Chief Fani Kayode and Gen. Raji Rasaki add their father’s first name to their own name combinations? You are familiar with names like Dapo Lam Adesina, Kemi Omololu Olunloyo, Adewale Raji Rasaki, Femi Fani Kayode, and the likes.
Perhaps these children are trying to take advantage of the good names their fathers were able to build over the years and that’s not wrong.
But children of the rich and powerful should not just lean on the reputation built by their parents, they should also learn to build their own persona and not only live under the shadow of their father’s first names.
Imagine it the other way round: Dapo Adesina, Kemi Olunloyo, Adewale Rasaki and Femi Kayode, without their fathers’ first names. These name combinations wouldn’t accord them any special attention, it won’t open doors like the other combo and they would even need to introduce themselves as children of so and so, but it would make them self reliant, they would have to walk their own walk and talk their own talk to achieve set objectives.
