It is part of the backlash of the June 9 elections of the principal officers of the National Assembly, laced with high wire politics and intrigues, during which he emerged the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Hon. Lasun Yusuf representing Osogbo/Olorunda/Irepodun/Orolu Federal Constituency of Osun State in the House was not meant to contest for the position of Deputy Speaker after Hon. Yakubu Dogara from Bauchi State had outfoxed the All Progressives Congress to beat the party’s official candidate for the Speakership, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and pick the plum position.

But Hon. Yusuf contested. He won the election as Deputy Speaker and he is now finding it difficult to win the peace, as the APC elders in Osun State have now disowned him and moved for his jugular.

Osun APC Elders Disown Hon. Lasun Yussuf

The Elders’ Council of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have dissociated itself from the election in the National Assembly which produced Hon. Sulaiman Lasun Yusuf as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, describing his emergence as an admixture of personal interest and vaulting ambition detrimental to the progress and stability of the party.

The caucus rising from a crucial meeting held recently at the party secretariat in Osogbo said that the political drama with the accompanying intrigues that characterised the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly and emergence of Hon. Lasun Yusuf as Deputy Speaker is not only a despicable act of betrayal and disloyalty to the party, but also a breach and negation of the party’s directive.

The elders’ caucus in a communique issued and signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Prince Felix Awofisayo and Barrister Gbadegesin Adedeji respectively, copy of which was made available to WESTERN POST in Osogbo  said that action of Hon. Lasun Yusuf accepting the position was condemnable and anti-party tendency.

The group further noted that the action has disrespected the party leadership adding that such action, if allowed to remain, is capable of promoting indiscipline and elevating treachery and rebellion to an art.

According to caucus, “we examined critically, particularly as regards the circumstances that brought about the election of Hon. Lasun Yusuf, member representing Osogbo/Olorunda/Irepodun/Orolu Federal Constituency of the State as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“That the acceptance of the office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives by Hon. Lasun Yusuf is not only a despicable act of betrayal and disloyalty to the party, but also a breach and negation of our party’s directive on the issue.

“That Hon. Lasun Yusuf allowed himself to be overwhelmed and driven by admixture of personal interest and vaulting ambition detrimental to the progress and stability of the party that nurtured him and on whose platform he was elected in the first place.

“That his action, if allowed to remain, is capable of promoting indiscipline and elevate treachery and rebellion to an art.

“That we condemned this anti-party tendency on the part of Hon. Lasun Yusuf without reservation and we hereby dissociate ourselves from it.

“That we pledge our support and unflinching loyalty to the dynamic and indefatigable Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, with a reminder that when the going is tough the tough gets going.
