NDLEA Arrests 253 Drug Suspects In Osun

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Osun State Command has disclosed that it arrested 253 drug suspects in the state between June 2020 – June 2021.

    This was contained in a statement signed by the Commander of NDLEA in the State, Samuel Egbeola on the occasion of 2021 United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a copy of which was obtained by Western Post in Osogbo on Saturday.

    Egbeola who said that the theme for this year is ‘Share The Facts On Drug And Save Lives’, further said that the suspects were made up of 240 males and 13 females, while only four have been convicted and about 30 cases are pending in court.

    He also said that the command has seized 385.539 kilogrammes of different illicit substances which made up of cannabis sativa, tramadol, pryphnol among others adding that 10.050 hectares of cannabis farms were destroyed.

    This period also witnessed conviction of four drug suspects while about 30 cases are pending in the court, he said.

    In terms of counselling of drug-dependent persons, 167 of them were counselled. These are users.

    “Enlightenment campaigns were organised in several secondary and tertiary institutions in the state during the period.”

    Egbeola noted that the feats achieved were made possible through the assistance of several stakeholders.
