New Ondo State House of Assembly, the 8th Assembly, was on Monday June 1st, 2015 inaugurated at the Assembly Complex.
The newly-elected members came with their families and friends within and outside the state, to share in their joy of the occasion.
Meanwhile, the former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Yetunde Akindele, representing Okitipupa State Constituency 2, was re-elected unopposed as 8th speaker of the assembly.
The twenty-six members, which included the speaker, took the oath of office to serve their people diligently.
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Fatai Olootu representing Akoko North East area of the state, was also re-elected to the position.
Speaking after his re-election, the speaker commended the newly-inaugurated members and promised to maintain an open door policy.
She thanked members of her party, the Peoples Democratic Party, for their support so far during the 7th Assembly.
The members had earlier been taken through a 2-day orientation and induction programme, organised by the House at the Royal Bird Hotel, Alagbaka, Akure.
The former speakers of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Kenneth Olawale and Rt. Hon. Dr. Bakita Bello had engaged the members in series of lectures on the work of the parliament.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko was unable to grace the valedictory session but sent a written note, which was read openly by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Adeyelure.
The state House of Assembly now has 22 PDP members and four APC members unlike the 7th Assembly where all the members were all PDP.
