Scores of heavily armed terrorists using women and children as shield have been killed on Sunday (Yesterday) during a foiled attack by the Nigerian Army, the Defence Headquarters said in a statement on Monday.
Boko Haram has stepped up its nefarious activities in the last three weeks after the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari, killing over a hundred people in the North-eastern part of the country.
According to the Defence Headquarters, it said “Scores of heavily armed terrorists using women and children as shield died on Sunday when they attacked Babangida in Yobe State.
The Nigerian Army said it recovered weapons and a huge round of ammunitions.
“While their action was being foiled by troops on Sunday. Over 10 rifles and weapon accessories as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition and some Hand Grenades were also recovered from the terrorists as some of them fled with gunshot wounds
It however said: “One soldier and a vigilante member however died, while 5 were wounded during the encounter.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has relocated the Military command center to Maiduguri near the theatre of war with Boko Haram terrorists in a bid to subdue and effectively root insurgency out of Nigeria territory.
The President has also reach out to neighbouring countries, Chad, Niger, Benin and Cameroon to form Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to fight insurgency that operate across the borders, consequently, President Buhari has ordered the release of $21million of the $100 million fund to support the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to be created in July to crush Boko Haram completely.
