A medical expert and Chairman of the Coalition Against Cancer, Dr. Pat. Abba has said that the early discovery of the deadly disease will make life more meaningful to the victims.
Abba who made the assertion in Akure the Ondo State Capital on Thursday marking this year’s World Cancer Day, with a theme “I am and I will” .
He said that it would be better for the people to spread and expose the causes and solutions to the disease so as to reduce the damages done on most women.
In her response, the first lady of Ondo state, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, who also participated in the conference against the deadly disease explained why there should be a need to sensitized the women against it.
She said further that, year 2020 marks exactly 20 years that we celebrate world cancer day. She said also that proper care of our body and health will help in preventing the disease as we know that, prevention is better than cure.
Mrs Akeredolu said the major problem is that our people always turn deaf hears to advice on how not to contract the disease but rather we engage in frivolities that can hamper our health and eventually lead to death.
She advised that their should be a better awareness from the Federal government to the people not only on women but also men who engage in what will not do their health any good but damage.
She later advised women to always do a self-examination on their breast and if anything strange is discovered, then such woman should quickly consult the nearest hospital before it degenerates to something uncontrollable.
She strongly emphasized that women should stop consulting spiritual fathers for prevention when it is discovered for it could result to a situation of regret.
The “A week” long program will feature free cancer screening at the Akure Town Hall on 4th of February and a town hall meeting at Owo, on 11th February, 2920.
