Former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Mohammed Barkindo, is now the new Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Barkindo, according to The WILL, was recently nominated by the Federal Government for the position and was chosen on Thursday afternoon by the 13-member body during the oil cartel’s 169th conference in Vienna.
He replaces Libya’s Abdalla El-Badri.
Barkindo was NNPC MD from 2009 to 2010.
He had earlier served as acting Secretary-General of OPEC in 2006, as well as representing Nigeria at the international organization.
