…charges unmarried girls on abstinence

The Chairperson National Association Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kwara State Chapter Hajia Binta Mora has appealed to the Federal government to provide adequate support for states ravaged with Meningitis.
She charged the state government as well to make the treatment affordable if not totally free and accessible to victims of the Meningitis Type C.
Mora made this appeal while delivering her welcome address at a day Seminar on Health and wellness as part of activities to mark 2017 NAWOJ week tagged “Health,Wellness and self empowerment” held at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre in Ilorin on Tuesday.
“At this juncture,permit me to make a passionate appeal to the Federal government to provide adequate support for states facing the outbreak of Meningitis,similarly,states government should make treatment affordable if not totally free and accessible to victims of the Meningitis type C”
“Vaccine should also be made available for adequate prevention,may the souls of those who lost their lives as a result of the out break rest in peace”she said.
The chairperson noted that Women Journalists have a lot of roles to play in the society by upholding professional work ethics giving voice to the voiceless members of the society particularly women and Children.
She said the Women Journalists could focus reportage towards women and children issues,gender equity,health issues and story that can advance the well being of women and children.
In his lecture Doctor Ismail Obalowu, urged for periodic check up so as to detect if there are need for treatment of any illness,learn how to conduct self breast examination as it’s easy to carry out,and at least once every week, backed up with visit to hospital if anything strange is observed.
The Family Medicine Consultant laments prevalence cases of Cancer among women under the age of twenties and thirties which was not so in the time past,
He noted that Cervical Cancer is becoming problematic as there are age variance for sexual intercourse practise all over the world.
The resource person commended wife of Kwara State Governor and founder of LEAH cancer centre Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed for putting up the screening centre across the state.
He urge to control the rate at which we stress ourselves and increase the intake of fruits and vegetable,supplement along prescribed drugs.
Earlier in her good will message the National Vice president NAWOJ Hajia Bilqess Oladimeji said Women would continue to support men as an agent of change and continue to contribute their quota for the development of the nation.
Similarly the Kwara NUJ chairman Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem in his good will message noted that the theme was important,charges NAWOJ to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure health issues,maternal mortality,rape are subsidies and tackle effectively as Journalists have power to do so,adding that youths and women empowerment is very important.
The number one Journalist in the state urged media houses management to always work for the convinces and conducive working atmosphere of their staff.
Meanwhile females outside marriage have been charge to absolutely abstain from sexual intercourse so as not to get unwanted pregnancy.
The Chairperson of the NAWOJ in the state made the charged while the Association visited the Kwara state babies reception home on Monday as part of activities to mark the week where toiletries,drinks,diaper, noodles among other things were presented.
The seminar was graced by wife of National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Sherifat Abdullahi.
