Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja has said nobody can Islamize Nigeria, saying doing so will be difficult.
Ladoja stated this while addressing journalists at his Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan home as his Sallah message.
His words:”In Nigeria, we should be thanking God because religion is not an issue or our problem until recently. No government can eradicate any religion. We are too close to one another for that to happen. You cannot force anybody to convert to another religion.
“On Fulanization, people must be cautious of the way herdsmen rearing their cattle. It is not possible to Fulanize Nigeria. If it is true that the government is planning that, it should perish the thought”.
The Ibadan High chief also threw his weight behind the agitation for the creation of state police, saying only police officers who are familiar with an environment could better secure such an area.
On the proscrition of the state wing of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by the Seyi Makinde-led administration, the former governor said:” The peace of the state should not be allowed to be shattered. They sbould have ways of collecting their levies rather harassing people. Their excesses are too many. NURTW is not the only union in the state”.
Also in his sallah message, Engr Rauf Olaniyan, the state deputy governor called on the people of the state to embrace peace and love one another.
Addressing journalists at his Jericho Estate residence, Ibadan, the Deputy Governor , Engr. Olaniyan, called for love and peace.
“We want peace where the people will enjoy themselves. There is difference between the real peace and the peace of the graveyard. We don’t want graveyard peace as we had in the past government.
“We need cooperation of the press. We implore journalists to focus on development journalism that promotes peace. There cannot be development, where there is no peace”, he said.
On the festival, he said: “We should love one another and our neighbours. If we love our neighbours, we will wish them well”.
