The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command has arrested a suspected online scammer, Bright Joseph.
A statement signed by the spokesperson of the NSCDC in the state, Adigun Daniel, said the 24-year old suspect, who resides at zone 6, Apete area, Owode Ede in Osun State was arrested on Wednesday at his residence.
Joseph, who was said to be a holder of National Diploma certificate from Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, advertised the sales of eggs under the guise of operating a farm called Choice Farms located in Ogbogbo, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State on his Instagram page.
It was gathered that one Halima Ashifa (37) who resides at Sango Otta in Ogun State, signified interest in the supply and established contact with the suspect, and made a cash transfer of N55,000 in two instalments of N7,500 and N47,500 for the eggs on 21st and 25th of January, 2022 respectively.
The money, according to the Corps spokesperson was deposited in a GTB account which the suspect claimed was the account belonging to his company’s secretary whereas the account actually belongs to a Point of Sales (POS) Operator at Owode Ede.
Daniel disclosed that the suspect had volunteered confessional statements to confirm his culpability and will be charged to court in due course.
