FIFA WCQ: Nwakaeme, Aina Set For Super Eagles’ Debut

Hapoel Be’er Sheva striker Anthony Nwakaeme and Hull City defender Ola Aina are in line to make their Super Eagles debut against Cameroon on Monday after coach Gernot Rohr confirmed  striker Odion Ighalo and defender Leon Balogun were doubtful for the World Cup qualifier.

The Eagles boss said both players suffered slight injuries during the first clash in Uyo on Friday, which Nigeria won 4-0.

“We had a good training session. The weather is very good. The pitch also is good, but we have two injury worries” Rohr stated.

“Odion Ighalo and Leon Balogun are nursing injuries from the game on Friday. They trained and tried to shake it off, but I will observe them till tomorrow to decide if they would be available for selection.”

Former Watford star Ighalo opened scoring for the Eagles on Friday, while Balogun was awesome in the heart of the back four.

Nwakaeme was an unused substitute in the Eagles 4-0 thrashing of Cameroon, while Ola Aina was not listed as he had not been given the all-clear by FIFA.

Nwakaeme, 28, who has four goals to his name in the UEFA Champions League qualifier this season, is tipped to get his chance following the injury to Odion Ighalo.
