The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State chapter, has condemned the killing of a truck driver, Kabiru Babai in Osogbo by yet to be identified Policeman.

Besides, the group condemned the incessant harassments and killings by Nigerian police in the state.

It would be recalled that Babai, a 33-year-old was shot dead by a notorious Police officer on Friday while he was fixing a company’s borehole drilling truck that broke down along Ikirun/Osogbo road, Ota-Efun area of Osogbo.

Chairman of the group, Ismail Abdulazeez said the organisation has visited the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Osun Command at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo and asked for the proper investigation of the incident for justice to be served.

He said: “it is saddening that Police still continue to operate unethically despite the challenges and outcome of 2020 #EndSARS.

“Should we now request for the ban of Nigeria Police entirely in our nation? No, but Police have decided to remain, act unruly and instead to uphold and enforcing law, they are becoming offenders.

“Police have now become murderers and brutal more than the original criminals.”

Abdulazeez urged the state police commissioner to fish out and bring the culprit to book without any delay as it’s expected to serve as deterrent to other prospective murders in the police system.

He also urged the state government particularly the governor who is the Chief Security Officer of the State to further checkmate the operations of security agencies in order for the state to sustain her high ranking position as the most peaceful in Nigeria.
