The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has charged the State athletes to be committed and be good ambassadors as they represent the State at the National Youth Games, 2018 holding in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital between 7th to 17th of this Month.
Giving the Charge at Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, Amosun, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Mr. Afolabi Afuape said the main purpose of participating in the Youth Games was to discover talents in sporting activities as well as to represent the State at National level in any sporting competition.
He said Ogun State has been consistent among the South-West States at the NYG for good three episodes unlike Lagos and Ondo States, adding that with this, its ascertained that the State would be well represented in the December, 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja, which was last held in year 2012.
The Governor said the State priority was that athletes representing the State in various sporting activities are called to National camp in large numbers via their performances, saying that he has confidence in them as the State was well known for being first in any human endeavors.
Appreciating the Management and coaches for their resilience, understanding and cooperation, Governor Amosun said even with the limited resources of the State, the present administration would not relent in its effort at promoting grassroots sporting development.
Prayers were later offered by the Director, Finance and Account, Ogun State Sport Council, Mr. Mathew Olalokiki for a successful outing andjourney mercy as he also charge the athletes to make the State proud.
